Charles Burke

Charles Burke is a City of Kawartha Lakes artist working mostly in oils, acrylic and encaustic. With landscape as his favorite subject, he enjoys working on location. Whether canoeing or hiking he carries a sketchbook to capture the visual and spiritual essence of a scene.
Interested in art since childhood, he is a self -taught artist with an extensive art library and significant art collection amassed in Ontario, Quebec and the United States, containing assist in study and development. As a professional clarinetist he values the aesthetic and technical bonds between art and music.

His pursuit of knowledge has taken him as far abroad as Italy, where he had the opportunity to get into and peruse the works of the drawing section of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, a section normally closed to the public because of the original centuries old sketches contained in it.
He has studied in the drawing section of our National Gallery and spends considerable time visiting galleries and shows both in Canada and the United States. He has recently studied at the Cape Cod School of Art in Province town, Massachusetts, under John Kilroy and Lois Griffel
His painting forays have taken him to Bancroft ( his home town), Georgian Bay, Bethany, Killarney, Thunder Bay, The Laurentians, ‘brilliantly-lit Charlevoix and to the New England Mountains.
