PHILOSOPHY of ART Awe and empathy for the depth of human knowledge. As an astronomer, I understand that the cosmos is 96% dark --- forever out of sight to us. We must treasure each and every flicker of light that illumines the abyss of our ignorance. Rejoice in each spark of understanding we glean from the vast sea of darkness that frames our Existence. Recognition of emergent objectivity is key to our comprehension of the meaning of sensory experience as it relates to our emotions. Colour is an individual mental state, but can be shared by the use of contrasts and harmonies. Time is an emotional involvement with that which was previously perceived. We seek meaning through our present window using the filter of past triumphs. In our search for Truth, we extract beauty from the duality of broken symmetries, from the stability of timeless triads, and from the rhythmic repetition of harmonies. Each act of creation is an icon of our innermost feelings that can be shared with the community of others.
