Olga Szaranski
Olga was born in Kopani, Ukraine. From early years, art has always amazed her. However, it wasn’t until later in life that she was able to pursue her interest in painting, once her family was raised and her retirement from the resort business afforded her more time. Her art education started with four years of evening courses at Sir Sandford Fleming College. Teachers included Edwin Matthews, Jack Hamer and Philip Webb. She also has attended many workshops organized by the ECOAA (East Central Ontario Art Association), with various instructors such as Poul Thrane, Pauline Holancin, Ron Leonard, Guttorn Otto and the Buckhorn School of Fine Art.

She is an active member of the ECOAA where she has the position of Historian in charge of the Association’s archives. She takes an active part in the ECOAA’s juried shows which are held in various locations in Ontario as well as those at the Visual Arts Centre of Clarington in Bowmanville where she has received many awards. She is a member of the Art Gallery of Peterborough where her work has been exhibited in the Art Rental and she supports the annual fund raiser Art Gala Auction in October. She also is a member of KAGS (Kawartha Artists’ Gallery & Studio) in Peterborough and the Spirit of the Hills, in Campbellford, where she exhibits regularly.

Currently her works are mainly in oils. Most of her paintings are begun outside on location all year round, in all kinds of weather. Later in the studio she puts on the last touches. Her favorite subjects are the Canadian Landscape, old buildings, barns, sugar shacks, historical homes and homes that are in neglected condition. Olga finds history particularly intriguing, especially her love for old barns and sugar shacks, because they are disappearing very last. The beauty she sees in flowers and still life is captured in arrangements at her home studio. Olga has painted full time since 1980 and her work can be viewed at her home-studio, five miles south of Peterborough at Bensfort Bridge.

Olga Szaranski works are in many private collections in Canada and abroad as far away as England, United States, Holland, Norway and the Ukraine. Also her work has been purchased by Johnson and Johnson Medical Products Corporation.
