Out-Door Painters Thursday Group 

The Out-Door Painters is a group of artists, belonging to the Kawartha Artists' Gallery and Studio. They are an energetic group that meets every Thursday, painting on location in the late spring till late Fall and inviting all to come and try the unique experience of plein aire painting. The sites that are picked are in the Peterborough area and are suitable for most people to arrive at in less than 30 min.

 June 11: Stuart and Beth McMaster: Go north on Chemong Rd. and turn west (left) on Hwy 1(formerly 7B) going towards Lindsay, and also known as Lindsay rd. After the Fife’s Bay Rd. look for #350 which is the second house on the right…wonderful Iris and gardens, farm, etc.  

 June 18.   Oussoren farm…817 Hayes Line…continue out Parkhill Road West past County Road 10…a short way past that on the left hand side. You can’t see the house from the road but you can see the chicken barns. There is a wonderful pond and garden area.  

June 25Shirley-May...348 Richardson Road Hastings. Take the 45 highway out of town toward Cobourg and at the Rangers Greenhouse sign turn left at Richardson Road.

July 2: Merridy Watt, Pot luck: Go to Bridgenorth, over causeway to Ennismore, turn right, follow to 4 way stop at Sullivans Store.  Turn right on Tarra Rd.  Follow to Gannons Narrows Conservation Area.  If you go over bridge you have gone too far. Turn left and come through gates at Conservation Area.  1764  Blackpool .  Follow lane, 1st on right down the hill, beige house.  

July 9: Hunter, Ruth &Terry large farmhouse, Bed and Breakfast, with gardens, exotic animals and plenty of room to move around the numerous out buildings and ponds. 2590 Highway 28 near Division Rd. Turning off Warsaw Road or north from Highway 7...farm is on the east side and is not seen from the road. It can be accessed from Division Rd.

July 16: Joyce MacLean    Directions--RR2, Lakefield1776 Galesburg Rd. --5miles N-E of Lakefield-Go through Lakefield up Hwy 28N, make a right turn onto County Rd.6 (formerly, Stoney Lake Rd). Go about 3 miles, make a left turn at Douro Rd. #1 (also known as, Galesburg Rd  The road is about 1mile long, no exit, go up two hills, 1776 is at bottom of second hill, 2 big wooden gates at front. They have four ponds, lots of flower gardens, back woods and there is also a small cabin in woods with a washroom.  

July 23: Gardens Plus: Gardens Plus is located in a small hamlet called Donwood just two minutes east of Peterborough,  Ontario on County Road #4(Parkhill Road East/the old Warsaw Road).  I grow perennials specializing in Daylilies and Hosta, a collection of Daylilies and hosta is up to approximately  450+ each.   I also try my best to offer many of the new and exciting perennials on the market as they become available. 

July 30: Olga Szaranski: 1807 County Rd 2. Out past the dump on Bensford Road to Couny Road 2 and turn right, go over the bridge (Bensford Bridge) Olga’s is the first house past the cottages on the left.  

Aug 6 Elaine Sills,  From Peterborough, north end: Take Parkhill continued (it becomes County Road # 4) all the way through to 4 way stop at Hwy 28 where it then is commonly known as Warsaw Road. Cross Hwy 28 & continue on until you see the first side road, on your left, about 1 km, which is 5th Line of Douro, Turn Left (it does not continue on right). Drive to stop sign at Center Road, then through to first farm on left.  A big white mailbox has Bill Copeland & Elaine Sills on it. You have arrived! From Peterborough, south end: Lansdowne east to TV Road.  Turn north to 4 way stop at Parkhill.  Then follow above directions.  

Aug 13... : Lang Pioneer Village Road off Heritage Line (hwy 34) on the east side, half way between hwy 7 and N. Riche Lake Rd (hwy 2)… watch for the conservation signs. I have confirmed that our group can hang paintings in The McKelvie Gallery Oct. 29th, at which time we can have another paint-out day there and at the same time remove our paintings.  The fall colours should be coming on at that time.

Aug 20: Doug Andrews: Ander-Vale Farm, Art Gallery & Country Gardens
937 Webster Road,  From Lakefield: Take Hwy 28 (formerly Hwy 134) south toward Hwy 7. At the Douro Community Center turn left on County Road 8 and continue east through the village of Douro. Remain on County Road 8 (it becomes Webster Road) and watch for #937 on the right hand side, just after the four-way stop sign in the Hamlet of Cottesloe. From Peterborough (north end): Take Parkhill Road E. and continue east on County Road 4 (Warsaw Road). Just before the County Works Yard, turn right on County Road 8. Cross Hwy 28 (formerly Hwy 134) and follow County Road 8 through Douro. Continue eastward on County Road 8 (it becomes Webster Road) and watch for #937 on the right hand side, just after the four-way stop in the Hamlet of Cottesloe.

 Aug 27: Howard Berry: Howard lives at 680 Water St. just one block south of Parkhill Rd. His home entrance and yard open onto Antrim St. The garden and terraced back yard is bordered on the river, with a view of the Rotary Trail and the Quaker. There are also interesting houses and gardens on the quiet street around Howard’s.  

Sept 3: Kingdon: 3396 Hope Mill Rd. The yard opens onto views of Hope Mill, big porch and pioneer type house, located a short distance from Lang Pioneer Village, off the same road. Continue past the entrance to Lang and when you come to a bridge over the river, the house is the white one on the right just after the bridge. This area features a variety of scenes and gardens.  

Sept 10 Rob Howat: 1865 8th line of Asphodel near Norwood…Rob has made many changes to his property, with lots of new fruit trees and grape vines as well as his generous personality. 8th line is just west of Norwood.

Sept 17 Jaan Teng 2075 Providence Line. East of Peterborough, turn right, three lines past the Keene Road and No. 7 Highway…or coming from the east it is two lines west of Heritage Line to the left. Interesting buildings and African sculptures. Jaan has an art gallery and studio and gardens.

Sept 24: Debra Power, Pot luck. 21 Agnes St.  Head south on Serpent Mounds Rd at the four corners. As you crest the top of the hill, Agnes St is the first left.  It does have a street sign, but rather looks like a driveway instead of a road.  If you pass the second cemetery, you have gone too far.   I am the only house on the cal-de sac so am easy to find.  I have plenty of parking and you are welcome to leave your cars here for the day, but the hill is a bit of a climb back if you want to wander down to the center village for painting.  There is a distant view of Rice Lake to take in.

Our painters enjoy the outdoors, be it talking to the animals or crouching in a garden.

If you are a member ( you do not have to be, to try out the Outdoor Painters Group) you will enjoy the fellowship and sharing it provides. All this for very little $2.00 each time (only when you use the gallery) it is free to all, when we are location. So why not!
