Vera Penrose has had an interest in painting since early childhood. Basically self taught, her interest increased over the years when joining art groups in Perth, Parry Sound, Bell’s Corners, Ottawa and Burk’s Falls Ontario, areas in which she has lived. She has taken courses from various instructors and at the Gallery on the Lake, Buckhorn Ontario and Schneider’s School of Fine Art (now Bridgewater Retreat) at Tweed Ontario. Oil painting is her main interest, although she does enjoy acrylics, watercolours and sketching. The subject she enjoys the most is the scenery in the area she lives. She has been the recipient of many ‘People’s Choice’ awards, most recently in the Kawartha Artist’s Members Christmas Show 2006 and the Buckhorn Fine Arts Festival 2007 where she also took the award for the Best In Show in oils. Her paintings are in private collections worldwide. She now belongs to the Kawartha Artists’ Gallery and Studio in Peterborough and the East Central Ontario Art Association.
