Emil Varga is primarily a self-taught artist. His interest and appreciation of art started as a teenager and remained a significant facet of his life. After his retirement from the General Electric Company in 1997 he was able to pursue his interests in painting more completely.
He has taken workshops with many notable artists: David Bierk, Richard Hayman, Kai-Liis McInnes, Brian Atyeo and Gordon MacKenzie. After exposure to various art mediums, he focuses on watercolour and mixed media, and works in a representational manner.
In 2001 he exhibited in Two Guys, One Show, with Austin Atherly at Kawartha Artist Gallery, in Peterborough. He has shown for 10 consecutive years at the Buckhorn Fine Art Show, in Buckhorn, Ontario, as well as Kawartha Artist Gallery, Cobourg Lions Art Show, Peterborough Polio Art Show, Port Perry, Fenelon Kawartha Art Show and most recently participated in the 2012 Kawartha Autumn Studio Tour.
He has won top awards at the Gallery on the Lake, Buckhorn Fine Art Show and more recently “The Peoples Choice Award” at the Peterborough Regional Hospitals juried 2010 Arts and Healing Show. He has been represented by Art Inclined, in Buckhorn, Ontario, The Art Shop, in Lakefield, Ontario and The Ward Street Gallery in Bridgenorth, Ontario.
He has taught at the Art School of Peterborough and he has conducted workshops at the Kawartha Artist Gallery, Bobcaygeon Brush Strokes, Buckhorn Artist Group, Markham Painters and the Don Valley Art Club.
