Our History

The Kawartha Artists’ Gallery and Studio was created in June 1990, by artists, for artists, aspiring artists and those interested in the arts.

The founding members felt that the Peterborough area art community could benefit greatly if gallery and studio space could be provided at a reasonable cost. Their search for suitable space was successful and we now have a unique gallery and studio entirely run as a co-operative by member volunteers.

The Kawartha Artists’ Gallery and Studio is a not for profit organization. Any money earned is used to cover operating expenses and to improve our facility.

Meet us behind “The Red Door”.  We offer a broad variety of workshops and scheduled classes for members and non-members. The studio is also available for art groups to carry out their own programs. The gallery provides excellent exhibition space for our members’ shows and special demonstrations. Members and non-members can also rent the gallery for a reasonable fee, for individual or group shows.

A warm welcome awaits new members at the Kawartha Artists’ Gallery and Studio. You will have the opportunity to participate in workshops and scheduled classes in a variety of media and subjects. Scheduled open studio time is also available for you to ‘do your own thing’.

All members are invited to exhibit in our regular members’ shows. Membership in the Kawartha Artists’ Gallery and Studio will provide a unique opportunity to meet and learn from other artists and take an active part in this exciting community project.

To contact the Gallery you may phone and leave a message or visit the Kawartha Artists’ Gallery and Studio at 420 O’Connell Rd. off of Park St. South, Peterborough, Ontario. The Gallery is open Wednesday to Sunday 1pm – 4pm, and Thursdays 1pm – 7pm.  We will be happy to provide further information about membership and ongoing gallery and studio activities.  705 – 741 – 2817
